About Cape Verde Dog Rescue

So, Cape Verde Dog Rescue is essentially a "supporting" organisation that acts as a link between Bons Amigos and any individuals who aspire to help but do not know how or where to start. Located between the UK and Santiago Island, we are in a great position to help. By working closely with Henriette in Vienna, and the Bons Amigos Clinic in Praia, we are able to find out exactly what is needed most.

Our objective is to harness the resources in terms of money, time and skills in order to support the vital work of the clinic in Praia. We are volunteers and every penny raised goes directly to support the work.

If you have been to Praia, the capital city of Cape Verde, you may have noticed that the city is afflicted with a growing population of stray dogs, mostly living in very poor conditions. Aside from the obvious issues surrounding the health and condition of the dogs themselves, there are also environmental and hygienic issues for the people who they live amongst.

After moving to Cape Verde we came across a nonprofit organisation which has been up and running for nearly 10 years now and who work tirelessly to tackle the situation.

Bons Amigos (Portuguese for “Good Friends”) was founded by Austrian, Henriette Wirtl, and, together with a dedicated and very hard working team of Cape Verdeans in Praia, they have already made a huge difference for hundreds of ill-treated, injured and neglected dogs.
